ASK, SEEK, AND THE GOLDEN RULE
요구하라, 찾아라, 그리고 황금률(행동규범)

"Ask and it shall be given unto you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you. For he who asks of his spirit, receives, and he who seeks through the power of spirit, finds, and he who knocks at the door of his spirit, to him it will be opened.
“요청하라 그러면 너희는 그것을 갖게 될 것이요; 찾아라 그러면 너희는 발견할 것이요; 두드리라 그러면 너희에게 열리리라. 자신의 영spirit에게 요구하는 자는, 받을 것이며, 영spirit의 권능을 통하여 찾는 자는, 발견할 것이며, 영spirit의 문을 두드리는 자는, (두드리는) 그에게 열리리라.


"Who is there among you who, if his son asked him for bread would give him a stone? Or, if he asked you for a fish would you offer him a serpent? Therefore, if you, even though you are being wicked, can still give your children good gifts, how much more will your spirit give unto you if you request it?" So be it.
“자신의 아들이 빵을 요구하는데 그에게 돌을 줄 사람이 너희 중에 누가 있겠느냐? 혹은, 자신의 아들이 너희에게 고기를 요구하는데 너희는 (크고 독 있는) 뱀을 그에게 권하겠느냐? 그러므로, 자신이 병들어 가고 있을지라도, 너희는 여전히 아이들에게 좋은 선물을 줄 수 있나니, 너희가 요청하면 너희의 영spirit이 훨씬 더 많은 (선물을) 주지 않겠느냐? 그리 될지어다.


"Everything that you would have people do unto you, also do that unto them. That is the law according to the prophets. Enter through the narrow portal, for the portal and the path leading to condemnation are wide, and there are many that walk thereon. And the portal and the path leading to Life and Knowledge are narrow, and there are only a very few that find of it.
“사람들로 하여금 너희에게 하도록 한 모든 것이, 또한 그들에게도 행하여지노라. 그것이 예언자들이 말한 법칙이니라. 좁은 문을 통해 들어가라, 비난으로 인도하는 길과 문은 넓고 또 계속 걸어야 할 많은 길이 있노라. 생명과 지식으로 인도하는 문과 길은 좁고, 그것에 대하여 찾아낼 것이 조금 밖에 없노라.

BEWARE--
경계하라

“Beware of false prophets and scribes who come in to you in sheep's clothing, but inside they are like raving wolves, and preach to you humility to shrines, false deities and gods, and preach to you of humility to idols and false teachings.
“양의 털을 덮어쓰고 너희에게 들어오는 거짓 예언자들과 유대인 율법학자들을 경계하여야 하나니, 그들은 속으로는 미쳐 날뛰는 늑대들과 같으며, 성골함聖骨函과 여러 거짓의 신위, 신에 대하여 겸손(할 것)을 설교하며, 여러 우상에 대하여 겸손(할 것)과 거짓된 가르침을 너희에게 설교하고 있노라.


"BEWARE OF THOSE WHO FORBID YOU ACCESS TO WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE AND TELL YOU TO NOT GO FORTH TO HEAR WHAT PERHAPS IS TRUTH, FOR THEY SPEAK TO YOU ONLY TO ATTAIN POWER OVER YOU AND TO SEIZE YOUR GOODS AND BELONGINGS. ALWAYS SEARCH BENEATH THE COVERINGS TO INSPECT THAT WHICH THEY DO NOT TELL YOU AND FURTHER, CHECK CAREFULLY THOSE THINGS THAT THEY EXTRACT FROM YOU. TRUTH AND WISDOM IN TRUTH ARE GIVEN WITH NO PRICE OF TREASURE NOR POWER OF FORCE.
“지혜와 지식에 다가가는 너희를 금지시키고 무엇이 진실인지 듣고자 하는 너희들에게 가지 말라고 말하는 자들을 경계하라. 그들은 너희에게 너희 위로 오직 능력을 획득할 것과 또 너희의 재산과 소유물들을 탈취하기 위해 말하고 있기 때문이니라. 그들은 항상 이불 밑에서 너희에게 말해서는 안 되는 것을 조사하고, 너희로부터 뽑아낼 것(재화)들을 면밀히 점검하고 있노라. 진리 속에 있는 진실과 지혜는 재물의 대가도 강요도 없이 주노라.


"You shall recognize these ones by the fruit they bear. Can a person gather grapes from the thorns, and figs from the thistles? Therefore, every good tree brings forth good fruit, but a bad tree brings forth wicked fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth wicked fruit and a bad tree cannot bring forth good fruit. Therefore, by their fruit shall you know them.
“너희는 그들이 생산하는 과실로 이것들이 (좋은지 나쁜지를) 알아보아야 하느니라. 사람이 가시나무에서 포도를 수확할 수 있으며, 엉겅퀴에서 무화과를 수확할 수 있느냐? 그러므로, 좋은 나무마다 좋은 과실을 맺느니라, 그러나 불량한 나무는 병든 과실을 생산하나니. 좋은 나무가 병든 과실을 맺을 수 없으며 불량한 나무가 좋은 과실을 맺을 수 없느니라. 그러므로, 그들의 (병든) 과실로 너희는 그들을 알아야 하느니라.


"Therefore, he who hears my speech and follows it, is like a smart man who built his house on the rock. And he who hears this speech and does not follow it is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. And when the flash flood rushed forth upon him and the strong winds were blowing against the house, it collapsed and fell. So be it that ye who have wisdom to heed my words shall reap of great unbounded rewards."
“그러므로, 나의 강연을 듣고 그것을 따르는 자는, 암반 위에 자신의 집을 짓는 재치있는 사람과 같나니. 또 이 강연을 듣고 그것을 따르지 않는 자는 모래 위에 집을 짓는 어리석은 사람과 같으니라. 넘치는 홍수가 그 자를 덮칠 것이며 강풍이 집으로 불어, 무너지고 쓰러지노라. 내 말에 마음을 두고 지혜를 갖는 그대들에게는 크고 무한한 포상이 있을지어다.


And after Jmmanuel had finished his discourse the people were stunned and shocked at his wisdom and knowledge and were surprised at his teachings, for he spoke with total authority and severity of tone, a new teaching and not as the other of their own scribes.
임마누엘께서 설교를 마친 후 사람들은 그의 지혜와 지식에 어리벙벙하였으며 또 충격을 받았습니다. 또 (사람들은) 그의 가르침에 놀랐습니다. 임마누엘은 완전한 권위와 엄격한 어조로 새로운 가르침을 말했으며 그들 자신의 유대인 율법학자들의 말과 같지 않았기 때문입니다.


They mumbled about among themselves in great wonder at this gentle man who spoke so emphatically of the truth which was laden with reason and logic.
